MCP Tools and Troubleshooting
Every tool your AI assistant can use through the Partner Fleet MCP server, how its edits reach your approval queue, its limits, and fixes for common problems.
Tools
Your assistant picks the right tool for what you ask, so you don't need to name them. Each tool needs one of the permissions you grant when you connect. If you didn't grant a tool's permission, the assistant doesn't see that tool at all.
Listings
| Tool | What it does | Permission |
|---|---|---|
search_listings | Searches your published listings by their full content and returns the best matches with the matching text. Can be narrowed by category and filters. | View listings |
list_listings | Lists listings in any status (draft, pending, active, rejected, old, disabled), newest first. Can also show what's in the trash, read-only. | View listings |
get_listing | Gets one listing in full, including every section and item. | View listings |
get_listing_template_schema | Gets a template's rules: which sections it enables, which fields are required, how many items each section needs, and which categories and filters a listing can use. | View listings |
create_listing | Creates a partner and a new draft listing on the template you choose. | Create listings |
update_listing | Changes a listing's details, such as its name, tagline, description, call-to-action buttons, SEO fields, categories or filters. | Edit listings |
add_listing_section_item | Adds one item to a section, such as a feature, FAQ, benefit or team member. | Edit listings |
update_listing_section_item | Changes one item in a section. | Edit listings |
remove_listing_section_item | Removes one item from a section. | Edit listings |
submit_listing_for_approval | Sends a draft or rejected listing to your approval queue. | Edit listings |
unsubmit_listing | Takes a listing that is waiting for approval back to draft so it can be edited again. | Edit listings |
Partner applications and form responses (read-only)
| Tool | What it does | Permission |
|---|---|---|
list_partner_applications | Lists Partner Application and Registration Form submissions, newest first. Filter by form, state (needs review, approved, rejected), date or search text, and get the count in each state. | Read partner applications |
get_partner_application | Gets one application with every answer. | Read partner applications |
list_form_submissions | Lists General Form responses, with the same filters and counts. | Read form submissions |
get_form_submission | Gets one General Form response with every answer. | Read form submissions |
There is no tool to delete, restore or approve a listing, or to approve or reject an application.
How listing edits work
The assistant follows the same rules as a partner editing their own listing in Partner Fleet.
Published listings are edited through a draft. When the assistant edits a published (active) listing, the change goes into the partner's draft version, which is created automatically if there isn't one. The live page doesn't change. When the draft is ready, the assistant sends it for approval and you review it like any other update. See Reviewing Partner Listing Updates.
A partner has one working version at a time. Besides the published listing, a partner can have one version in progress: draft, pending or rejected. The assistant always edits that one rather than starting another.
Pending listings must be taken back first. If a version is already waiting for approval, edits are refused. The assistant can unsubmit it (back to draft), make the change and submit it again. It never does this on its own as a side effect of an edit, so a version never disappears from your approval queue without you asking. You can also click Return to Draft in the admin.
New listings start as drafts. create_listing never publishes anything.
Submitting checks your template's requirements. If a listing doesn't meet them, the submission is refused and the reply says how complete the listing is and names what's missing, for example "Listing is 72% complete; required and missing: …". Some requirements, such as pictures or a header image, can only be completed in the admin; the reply lists those separately so the assistant can ask you to finish them.
Sections change one item at a time. The assistant adds, changes or removes individual items. It doesn't replace a whole section at once, and content is never removed as a side effect of another edit.
Categories and filters must come from the template. The assistant can assign only the categories and filter values the listing's template offers. Setting them replaces the listing's current set.
Some details are set only once. A partner's website and external ID can be set when the listing is created, but not changed through MCP afterwards. Change them in the admin.
Images come from URLs. The assistant can attach a logo or an item image only from a public URL you give it. If you create a listing without a logo, Partner Fleet fetches one from the partner's website when it can.
Partner applications and form responses
- Read-only. The assistant can read and summarize them, but can't approve, reject or change anything.
- States are needs review (waiting for a decision), approved and rejected.
- Uploaded files are returned as links. The assistant sees the link, not the file's contents.
- Who decided isn't available: the data doesn't record who approved or rejected a submission, or when.
- Deleted form fields: answers to a field that was deleted after the submission still appear, with the question's name but without its field type.
- App Approval and Review Form submissions aren't available through MCP.
- Dates without a time zone are read in US Central time.
Limits
| Limit | Value |
|---|---|
| Requests per connection | 60 per minute |
| Search results per page | Up to 25 |
| Listings per page | Up to 100 |
| Applications or responses per page | Up to 100, or 10 when every answer is included |
If an assistant goes over the request limit, it is asked to wait briefly and try again.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | What to do |
|---|---|
| There's no MCP tab under Advanced | MCP isn't turned on for your marketplace, or you don't have the Admin role. To request access to the free Beta, email [email protected]. |
| The assistant can't reach the server, or gets "Not found" | Check that you copied the URL from Advanced → MCP and that it ends in /mcp. If it's correct, MCP may have been turned off for your marketplace. |
| Sign-in fails before the permission screen appears | Check that the connector uses sign-in (OAuth) with no API key, token or custom headers. If your assistant lets you choose how it registers with the server, choose automatic registration, then connect again. |
| The sign-in page doesn't accept my account | Only marketplace admins can connect. Partner and other non-admin accounts can't. |
| "Select at least one permission" | Tick at least one permission before clicking Allow access. |
| A tool is missing, for example the assistant says it can't read partner applications | That permission wasn't granted. The two application and form permissions start unticked. Disconnect and connect again with the permission ticked. |
| The assistant gets "Unauthorized" after working before | The connection was disconnected, or the admin who approved it lost the Admin role or was locked out. Connect again. |
| "Rate limit exceeded" | More than 60 requests in a minute. Wait a minute and try again. |
| An edit is refused because the listing is waiting for approval | Ask the assistant to unsubmit the listing, make the change, and submit it again, or click Return to Draft in the admin. |
| A submission is refused | The reply lists what's missing. Ask the assistant to fill those in. Anything it says needs the admin, complete in Partner Fleet. |
| A category or filter is rejected | It isn't offered by the listing's template. Ask the assistant to check the template's options, or add it to the template in the admin. |
| Search is temporarily unavailable | Try again in a few minutes. |
| The assistant can't find a draft with search | Search covers published listings only, like your public marketplace search. Ask it to list listings by status instead. |
Frequently asked questions
Can I see what the assistant changed?
Yes. Every listing change lands in a draft or pending version, which you review like a partner's update before anything goes live. The MCP page also shows when each connection was last used.
Can partners connect their own assistant?
No. Only marketplace admins can connect.
Does the assistant follow instructions written inside listings or applications?
It shouldn't. Listing content is written by partners and applications by outside applicants, and the MCP server tells the assistant to treat that text as data, never as instructions. As with any AI tool, review its changes before approving them.
Can I use an API key instead of signing in?
No. The MCP server only accepts sign-in, so every action is tied to the admin who approved it. For scripts and other software, use the Core API with an API key.
